The  life and times of the macdonald sisters

A fully-illustrated life of Catriona and Mairead Macdonald can be found in the following link to an article published by the Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre:

www.highlifehighland.com/skye-and-lochalsh-archive-centre/catriona-and-mairead-macdonald-collection/

Born in 1920 and 1921 in Karachi, then part of British India, the Sisters later travelled extensively in that country as well as in South Africa and Malta. However, their father had taught them Gaelic and they visited Skye often and the Hebrides vied with Africa and India as an influence in their work. Mairead died in Sark in 1990. whilst Catriona spent the last year of her life in Uig in the north of Skye, dying there in 2006.
